First and only hypnotherapist at Glastonbury

For the second year running I was delighted to be accepted as the only hypnotherapist at Glastonbury Festival and to work as a healer in the Healing Fields, and for the second year running I was the only hypnotherapist there.  I also learned last year that they had never had a hypnotist before so I was especially pleased that I had been allowed to work there.

For those of you who have never been to Glastonbury the Healing Fields are part of the Green Fields. These are the areas which hark back most to the original values and ideals of the festival. The energies in the Field are relaxing, soothing and very supportive of all who venture in.

Festival goers come in to chill out and receive any of the myriad of healing therapies that are available. Therapies are given for donations only and then the therapists give a percentage of their earnings to the administrators to share out amongst the volunteers who help to run the Field before and during the Festival.

The therapies offered include virtually every sort of massage as well as Reiki, Cranial Sacral therapy, Osteopathy, Reflexology, Shamanic healing, meditation, yoga and many more and not forgetting hypnotherapy of course.

It is very interesting to see the reaction of people when they read the sign inviting them to “experience hypnosis today”. Some look decidedly nervous, some are intrigued and then there are those who come forward to ask me how it works and can it work for them.

Some just want to chat of course, and then some who decide to go for it. Doing hypnosis outdoors without the archetypical ‘comfy chair’ and closed doors of a practice room would, to many, seem doomed to failure.  However my experience over the past two years is completely the opposite. People typically go very readily into trance and often more quickly the normal.  I put this down to the very safe, nurturing and relaxed atmosphere in the Healing Fields. It is also because I have become confident of being able to work in the fresh air and with other people watching (but not listening) and often with other sounds such as music being present.

It is also humbling that often people who have only known me for a few minutes will share some of their most intimate secrets and problems with me in the hope that through hypnosis they can achieve some positive change in the short time we have together.  I think in all cases people leave feeling more relaxed and positive about the future than they were before the experience of hypnosis. They often they have a different outlook or perspective on the challenge they are facing. In some cases such as a phobia or smoking there may be a permanent change however I cannot claim that because once they have finished the session with me people disappear back into the melee of the Festival.

Next year is a rest year for the farm so there will be no Festival and so I am hoping to be back there in June 2013.

And if you are wondering, yes I did see some of the bands and enjoyed some of the other areas of the Festival.
