“Life has no remote! You have to get up and change it yourself!”

A friend of mine (thank you Rose Evans) recently posted a quote from Erica Morrison on Facebook “Life has no remote! You have to get up and change it yourself!”

I did reply with a comment that “you still have access to all the channels!”, which was supposed to be just a throw away remark.

Life has no remote!
Life has no remote!

However the more I thought about it the clearer it became how important it is to recognise that one’s own life is not a spectator sport and that if we want to change it, then it is up to each of us to realize that firstly change is possible and secondly that we are responsible for making it happen. I think that “Life has no remote!” also means that there is no automatic route through life.

It also occurred to me that just as we are able to select programmes on the remote so we should have control over how we behave, over what we do and how we do it.  But sometimes we continually select the wrong programme, or one that is not what we actually want or that might be harmful to us.  The trouble of course is we are not selecting these unhelpful programmes deliberately or even consciously. Why on earth would we?

Often even though the logical part of our mind knows that they are not doing us any good and tries its hardest to change, we just cannot select a different programme however hard we try.

That’s when a different approach to making change happen might be of benefit and when trying to communicate directly with the subconscious mind, which is responsible for selecting the unhelpful programme, and persuading it to make a more helpful selection could be an effective method for regaining control.  And of course, if you haven’t guessed already, because hypnosis is the bridge to the subconscious mind, hypnotherapy may well offer a way to help you start selecting the right programmes.
